Pioneer Technology Center’s (PTC) Cosmetology students helped members of the Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma get ready for a special event by hosting a spa day for the Father-Daughter Dance.
The event took place on February 21st and was planned by PTC’s SkillsUSA Chapter as a way to give back to the community. Three student leaders helped organize the event, which offered free beauty services to fathers and daughters attending the dance.
“We wanted to do something special to bring families together while also showing what our students have learned,” said Kayla Randol, Cosmetology Instructor at Pioneer Technology Center.
The students provided hair styling, makeup, and manicures, for the daughters, and haircuts for the dads. The event was held in partnership with the Native Connections Outreach & Activities Program of the Ponca Tribe.
One of the student leaders, Hailey Caniz-Lopez, shared, “It was amazing to see the little girls so happy when they saw their new look. The dads were also really thankful for their haircuts.”
The Father-Daughter Dance is an important tradition for the Ponca Tribe, celebrating family and culture. This event helped both the students, the community as the Cosmetology students gained real-world experience, while tribal families enjoyed a fun and pampering day.
