While Pioneer Technology Center (PTC) staff members continually strive to prepare students for high-skilled, high-wage careers, businesses are looking for a workforce that is more technically skilled, more capable in troubleshooting, and better at problem solving. Through a system called WorkKeys and their curriculum, PTC can help area businesses meet their challenges by better preparing students using a system developed by ACT, the nationally renowned organization that originated the ACT college-testing program. The WorkKeys employment system assist in this effort by providing a method for setting basic skill requirements for jobs, for assessing a student’s skills relative to a job, and for improving a student’s basic workplace skills to successfully qualify and retain a high-skilled, high-wage career.
