Pioneer Technology Center (PTC) has installed a Shelter in Place BulletProof room for safety and cover in the Children’s Lab area. The shelter will be used for staff and children in the event of a tornado or active shooter situation. It is the first of its kind in Ponca City and holds 35 - 40 people. Since its construction the preschool and lab are using it as a teaching center on a daily basis where children go and read their books. This helps prevent the little ones from being afraid when it comes time to go to the safe room in an emergency.
The Shelter in Place company individualizes safe rooms and wanted to create an extraordinarily capable small, Ballistic Storm Shelter designed to fit into any location and built onsite in the classrooms or other locations throughout schools. They also educate teachers and staff with current statistics to be proactive in the event of a tornado and active shooter situation.
Lora Walton, Children’s Lab Coordinator said, “We appreciate our administration recognizing the importance of this room for our lab. It’s a valuable addition and we are excited to provide even more safety for our program.”
The PTC Children’s Lab has expanded its hours and they are now offering child care services during the summer months. For more about the programs and services provided at Pioneer Tech or to enroll call 580-762-8336 or visit www.pioneertech.edu.
