Dave May was a long-time Ponca City resident graduating from Po-Hi in 1979. During his many years in Ponca City he was known for being a morning show radio host first on WBBZ, then KLOR. He served as Executive Director of the Poncan Theatre for several years and was active on the stage of the Ponca Playhouse where he performed in numerous plays and musicals over four decades. May was a staff writer for the annual Poncan Theatre fundraiser “Taste and Tasteless” from its inception and performed nearly every show.
May often appeared with his ventriloquist figure “Andy”. A favorite memory for Dave was his performances in “A Tuna Christmas” alongside fellow actor Phil Bandy. Along with his stage and radio performances, May also wrote and appeared in two different local television productions. “Shock Theatre” as Count Me Out and as himself hosting “Andy’s Wacky World” from the stage of the Poncan with broadcasts being carried on local cable.
May continues to write, direct, and perform in his new hometown of Council Grove, Kansas where he is active in starting a new community theatre group, and is currently writing, directing and appearing in “Good and Evil in the Grove” ad the “History and Mystery Trolley Tour” of dubious historic sites around Council Grove for the Halloween season.
For many years May has also served as a staff writer for performances at the world-famous Comedy Store in Los Angeles. He says, “I’m excited to return to Ponca City to honor my longtime boss Bill Coleman and reunite onstage with his former co-worker Sean Anderson.” For online ticket sales CLICK HERE or call 580-762-8336 to reserve your seats today.
